Land-based salmon set to hit 200,000t by 2030

After years of hype, land-based aquaculture is finally starting to deliver.

In the 5th edition of the Land-based Aquaculture Report (LBAR), Spheric Research forecasts that volumes from modern flow-through, hybrid flow-through, and full RAS facilities will approach 200,000 metric tons by 2030.

That’s equivalent to adding around 5% to global net pen Atlantic salmon supply — a major shift for an industry that’s been growing less than 1% a year since the pandemic.

For the first time, LBAR also includes an official salmon forecast, alongside projections for trout, Arctic char, and yellowtail kingfish from RAS.
